Cult Thursdays: Death Rides a Horse (1967)

    The poster says it all.

Song-A-Day: Across the Universe

"Across the Universe" cover by Fiona Apple, from the movie Pleasantville. The video was directed by Apple's then-boyfriend Paul Thomas Anderson, fresh off his success with Boogie Nights.

Classic Tuesdays: Duck Soup (1933)

Take two turkeys, one goose, four cabbages, but no duck, and mix them together. After one taste, you'll duck soup for the rest of your life (twitches eyebrows, wiggles cigar)…

Song-A-Day: Just Like Honey

"Just Like Honey" by The Jesus and Mary Chain.

Song-A-Day: Her Majesty

"Her Majesty" by The Beatles. Listen to this one with headphones: the audio fades slowly from the left speaker to the right, giving off the illusion that it's traveling through your head, from one ear to the next.

TV Makes You Stupid: Buffy the Vampire Slayer - "Hush" (1999)

New feature! In which we take a deeper look at favored episodes from classic television series...

Song-A-Day: Holland, 1945

"Holland, 1945" by Neutral Milk Hotel, from their second and last album, In the Aeroplane Over the Sea - one of the all-timers, in my humble opinion.

Classic Tuesdays: The Wilby Conspiracy (1975)

In which Michael Caine and Sidney Poitier teach us the value of working together…

Song-A-Day:You Only Live Twice

"You Only Live Twice" by John Barry, Leslie Bricusse and Nancy Sinatra. I'm still buzzing from Sunday's Mad Men finale, capping off the best season yet of the best TV show currently going - thanks in no small part to it's expert use of songs from the time period. They already used The Beatles' "Tomorrow Never Knows" to great effect, might as well throw another genius montage set perfectly to the James Bond theme from the year the season takes place, 1967.

Song-A-Day: Rock n' Roll Suicide

"Rock n' Roll Suicide" David Bowie cover by Seu Jorge, from Wes Anderson's The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. I feel like Life Aquatic gets overlooked when discussing Anderson's filmography, but it's always been my favorite of his - thanks in no small part to the soundtrack made up mostly of Bowie covers by Jorge.

Cult Thursdays: Planet of the Vampires (1965)

An hour and twenty-eight minutes, and not a proper vampire in sight…

Song-A-Day: Bright Lights

"Bright Lights" by Black Mountain, their postapocalyptic masterpiece - it makes a great companion piece to Planet of the Vampires, actually. Make sure to listen all the way to the end!

"Moon River" by Andy Williams - Academy Award winning song by James Mercer and Henry Mancini for Breakfast at Tiffany's.

Classic Tuesdays: Suddenly (1954)

“The first men they shoot to the moon in a rocket will take pains, too - ’cause that’s never been done before. Neither has this.”

Song-A-Day: Young Men Dead

"Young Men Dead" by The Black Angels - these guys have another song called "Sniper at the Gates of Heaven," which sums up their whole sound quite nicely.
